Janet and her husband, Don, own a local real estate company which has been in business for thirty-eight years. Janet is also involved with her family’s 80 acre orchard in Parkdale.

The Nunamaker’s daughters are also real estate brokers. Alison, graduated from Willamette University, is a Don Nunamaker, Realtors broker and the office manager. Alison and her husband, Mychal, had their first child–daughter Kenadie Rae Lucas–in February 2008. Their son, Drew Robert, was born in February 2010. Ashley, graduated from the University of Oregon, joined the family firm in 2010.

Carol Rodrick of Mosier, OR

Tom Schaefer of Hood River, OR

Tom lives with his wife, Mole, their five cats and adolescent dog near Pine Grove and Odell in Hood River County. Tom and Mole chose Hood River Valley as home for their family of three children over twenty years ago because of the area’s natural beauty and wonderful sense of community.

Tom received his BA from Pomona College, teaching certification at Pacific Oaks College, and his Masters in Counseling Education from the University of Southern California. He served Pacific Northwest communities as a VISTA Volunteer (predecessor to AmeriCorps) and educator.

His lifelong commitment has been to children, youth and community and he currently serves appointments on both the Oregon Commission of Children and Families and the Hood River County Commission on Children and Families. For the fifteen years since an early retirement, Tom has actively advised high school students in community service and college planning.

The Schaefer’s children began the Schaefer Family Fund, a Donor Advised Fund, as part of their commitment to giving back to community. The surviving children changed the name to the Laura Douglass Schaefer Fund to honor their younger sister after her sudden death in 2007. It is an endowment which will permanently support some of Laura’s passions – music performance and education and animal welfare.

Tom’s belief that we should include a look at local needs when deciding on charitable giving led him to be a founding member of the Gorge Community Foundation board. Tom and Mole made provision in their wills for a further legacy through the Gorge Community Foundation.

Gil Sharp of Hood River, OR  (Board President)

Gil grew up in eastern Colorado, tested urban living in California during his college years and migrated north to Oregon thinking the land was greener, the water more abundant and gardening was a can’t miss proposition.

Gil and his wife, Anne, moved to Hood River in 1978 where he opened a law office, they raised two sons and the gardening has morphed into a ten acre organic fruit orchard as well.
The Foundation provides Gil an opportunity to be involved in the creation of an entity which will perpetually spin off funds to support the many charitable causes in our communities.

Charles K. Toole of The Dalles, OR  (Board Vice-President)

Chuck Toole and his wife of 35 years, Kathy, moved to The Dalles with their two sons in 1982. Their son, C.J., lives in The Dalles with his wife, Mandie, and their daughter Clea. Their son, Jeremy, lives in Portland with his wife Cassandra and their son, Lyric.

Chuck Toole with his grandaughter, Clea

Chuck has degrees in accounting from the University of Oregon and in law from Willamette University. He also has an LL.M. in taxation from the McGeorge School of Law. He is currently a partner in the The Dalles law firm of Dunn, Toole, Carter & Coats, LLP, licensed to practice law in both Oregon and Washington. His practice is limited primarily to tax and estate planning for families and family businesses in the Mid-Columbia region. He also helps clients with real estate matters and transactions and purchases and sales of local area businesses.

In addition to his legal work, Chuck has been heavily involved with community activities, including acting as pro bono advisor to several regional charitable organizations and frequent speaking appearances on taxation and estate planning. Currently he is a board member of the Columbia Gorge Community College Foundation and a member of the Providence Foundation Planned Giving Advisory Committee.

Chuck and Kathy especially love spending time with their grandchildren and hope for more time with them in the future.
