Bio of Norm Luther Underwood, WA

Norm grew up and graduated from high school in Salem, Oregon. He has a B.S. from Stanford University with a double major in psychology and mathematics.

There he met his wife of 50 years, Rosalind. His education continued with a M.S. and Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Iowa and a National Science Foundation post-doctoral fellowship at UC Berkeley.

Norm spent 20 years on the mathematics faculty at Washington State University at Pullman and 14 years as a Research Fellow at the East-West Center in Honolulu, doing research in mathematical demography and conducting workshops on analysis of census and survey date in Asian countries.

In retirement his interests include traveling (every continent except Antarctica), politics, community volunteer work, church work and activities with his four children and seven grandchildren, including backpacking.
