
Bio of Maija Yasui
Maija Yasui is a life-long resident of Hood River County, and a founding member of the Gorge Community Foundation. Both her father’s family and spouse’s family have worked in the fruit industry for almost a century in Hood River Valley. She has a bachelors degree from Portland State University in sociology and criminology and has worked in Hood River County community services since the early 1970’s. She is a licensed prevention specialist.
Her expertise is in fund and resource development, collaboration with social services’ agencies and non-profits and building community resources.
Maija is married to Philip Yasui and lives on a cherry and pear farm in the middle Hood River Valley. She has three adult children, all of whom have returned to the valley to raise their own families. She is the proud grandparent of three girls and one boy.
The Yasui Family started the Chop Yasui Fund in memory of Ray T. Yasui about 5 years ago to honor his commitment to youth in Hood River Valley. “Chop” was a respected orchardist, community activist, and people lover extraordinaire.
